Children First, Inc. engages families in our community and the courts to promote safe, stable and nurturing living environments for children. Family Time Community Visitation Center, a program of Children First, is a service provider for the Department of Family and Children Services in Region 5, predominately Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties. Our staff provide frequent and/or extended visits and parenting education to enhance and maintain familial bonds, support case plan goals, and provide families in crisis with time to heal and grow. The Visitation Supervisor is primarily responsible for the coordination and documentation of supervised visitation services after receiving referrals from DFCS and private pay clients.
Coordination and provision of supervised visitation and parenting services.
Provide parenting skills and supervised visitation services which are family-centered, strengths-based and facilitate safe reunification for children in foster care, at the office and at clients residence. Administer assessments and the Nurturing Parenting Curriculum, as well as, other supported parenting tools for families Provide professional testimony in court proceedings (when subpoenaed) about Family Time families’ visitation and parenting progress. Participate in Family Team Meetings (FTMs), Multiple Disciplinary Team Meetings (MDTs), and legal staffing. Maintain organized, accurate and up-to-date physical and electronic case records in compliance with Agency protocols, ensuring data integrity for reporting needs. Ensure quality and professional communication with families, foster parents, DFCS workers, attorneys, and CASA workers. Strong assessment and discernment skills required to provide safe supervision of visits and assessment of parent progress/knowledge in order to make recommendations to families, DFCS, providers and the court about families’ progress, reunification or transitioning home placements with family. Transport clients to and from visits when necessary.
Establish and maintain effective, collegial working relationships with Children First staff, board and volunteers, as well as with representatives of the courts, attorney, community and education service providers. Participate in agency fundraisers with an ability to speak comfortably and engage in the recruitment of clients. Understand the need for ongoing supervision, self-study, and research to improve practice standards and program knowledge. Other duties as assigned; non-essential job duties, non-related responsibilities and other tasks as required by the Executive Director and Agency may be assigned from time to time; Children First, Inc. is a small non-profit organization requiring flexibility from its staff. Candidate will have or be willing to purchase and use own personal cell phone.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychology Public Health or a similar field. 2 or more years’ experience providing parenting to families. 2 or more years’ experience in the fields of child welfare, social services, mental health, juvenile law, child welfare and/or case management required. Have knowledge in the areas of domestic violence, substance abuse, family dynamics and developmental stages of children. Strong working knowledge of community resources in Clarke, Oconee and Jackson County Areas. Must pass a comprehensive background check. Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs, as well as Google. Comfortable with learning and utilizing new software programs. Strong written communication skills; candidates should be prepared to provide a writing sample upon request. Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to welcome feedback, and to articulate safety and risk assessments when meeting with families, DFCS staff, or attorneys, and/or when testifying in court. Flexibility with hours, including working afternoons, evenings and weekends, with an ability to independently manage one’s workload and schedule. Have reliable transportation and ability to schedule travel. Demonstrate respect of all people regardless of socioeconomic background, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or gender and experience working with culturally diverse populations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise diplomacy and discretion in communication with others. Have excellent time management and organization skills. Demonstrated follow-through on commitments, with accountability for own actions. Ability to manage conflicts that may arise with clients and other staff. Manual dexterity to operate phones, computers and other office equipment. Able to drive a car. Able to hold children or items 20-30lbs. Ability to sit for long periods with some standing, and ability to kneel, climb stairs, bend, and perform light lifting. Ability to write and speak English to convey information and ability to hear at normal speaking levels in person and over the telephone. Vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Ability to concentrate and multi-task. Working conditions are generally good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards and/or hazardous materials; work is performed in an office setting and in community buildings and in the community; ability to travel is required with some overnight stay.
