GleeOff Recap!

GleeOff 2013 was a great success! Three competing show choirs performed in front of a crowd of more then three hundred at Hugh Hodgson Performing Arts Center. The night was full of excitement and support for Children First. Thanks so much to Beth Larsen from Magic 102.1FM who hosted the show, and to our esteemed panel of judges; Genie Wiggins, Kate McNeely and Jason Bennett.

Salem High School Show Choir started the show off with a bang. They energized the audience with their beautiful harmonies in Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and spunky dance moves in Ease on Down the Road.

Oconee High Glitz N’ Ritz Show Choir mystified the audience as James Bond appeared on stage. The Oconee High Ladies enchanted us with their rendition of Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, but the whole group shined as they danced the night away to some of Bond’s greatest.

Marietta High School Blue Devil Singers took us Somewhere Over the Rainbow to a land called Oz. Beautiful solos and vivacious Michael Jackson dance moves wowed the audience and kept them wanting more.

The night was unforgettable and would not have been made possible without our sponsors and supporters. Special thanks for YAS, Athens Regional, Curtis O’Hara Foundation, Georgia Power, Flagpole, Online Athens, Magic 102.1FM, Dr. Harter of Classic City Orthodontics, Perno Insurance Benefits, Robins Federal Credit Union and Trumps Catering.

Congratulations to our 2nd Annual GleeOff Champion, Oconee High Glitz N’ Ritz Show Choir! Oconee also received the People’s Choice Award, Best Overall Performance and Best Choreography. Also, congratulations to Salem High who received Best Vocal Performance!

Thank you to everyone who made it a great night! To view more photos from the night, click here.

What Is a Glee Club?
Traditionally, a Glee Club is a musical ensemble which specializes in the singing of short songs—glees—by trios or quartets.  In recent years, glee club has had a resurgence with the comedy-drama TV show Glee. The modern makeover incorporates a larger ensemble of performers, choreographed dance routines, costumes, and renditions of popular music numbers.  The result is a colorful and energizing song and dance performance.

Who Can Enter?
Any Show Choir, Glee Club, Chorus, Drama Club, or other high school student organization that is composed of 10 or more members is encouraged to enter.
