We would like to congratulate Bonnie Harris for being the 2017 Athens Oconee CASA volunteer of the year. Bonnie trained in Sept 2009. Over the past 7 1/2 years she has advocated for 16 children. She is currently working with a family of 7 children. These children have unfortunately been spread across the state, but Bonnie drives to visit all her kids monthly. Bonnie is also a Peer Coordinator! Over the last year, she has mentored and helped 2 CASAs with their case. She recently took on a 3rd volunteer to mentor. Bonnie continually goes above and beyond to speak up for the best interest of her CASA kids. We appreciate all the miles and hours you give to our children, Bonnie!!
We would also like to recognize Anne Shaffer. Each year we invite DFCS to our Volunteer Appreciation event through the great partnership with our local DFCS office we are able to make a huge impact in our community. They ask their foster care case managers for nominations on a CASA of the Year from Clarke/Oconee DFCS. This year Anne was the winner of their award. Anne has been a CASA for 2 years. Her CASA children were actually reunited with their mother last Friday. Anne worked tiredlessly with the case manager to develop the best transition plan for these children. She was also able to assist in pop-up visits to make sure everything was going well. Congratulations Anne and we look forward to great work in the future. We would also like to thank the Administrators at DFCS for their continued support in the CASA mission!!
